And in Jim Butcher’s “Last Call,” wizard Harry Dresden takes on the darkest of dark powers—the ones who dare to mess with this favorite beer.

Promo - Alpha and Omega:Cry Wolf, Vol. 1 by Paticia Briggs

ACE BOOKS AND DABEL BROTHERS ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP TO PUBLISH NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR PATRICIA BRIGGS IN COMIC BOOK AND GRAPHIC NOVEL FORMATS

Briggs's popular Alpha and Omega series to debut as Dabel Brothers comic books in August 2009 followed by the graphic novel from Ace in November 2009

New York, NY, June 11, 2009- Ace Books, an imprint of Penguin Group (USA), announced today the publication of #1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs' Alpha and Omega: Cry Wolf, Volume 1 in graphic novel form. The Dabel Brothers, who previously partnered with Briggs to create comic adaptations of her bestselling Mercy Thompson series, will now adapt her first Alpha and Omega novel, Cry Wolf, into a comic series starting this summer. Ace Books will then publish a graphic novel edition of the first four installments of the Dabel Brothers comic series this fall. The publication of Alpha and Omega: Cry Wolf, Volume 1 marks Ace's first foray into the graphic novel market.

The Alpha and Omega series grew from a novella of the same title, originally published in the anthology On the Prowl. This story, featuring two popular secondary characters from Briggs's bestselling Mercy Thompson series, was well received and Briggs decided to spin them off into a new series. The Alpha and Omega series began last year when Ace published the full-length novel Cry Wolf and will continue this August when a follow-up novel Hunting Ground hits bookstores.

"We already have a great relationship established with Patricia and are excited to be working with Penguin on this project," said Rich Young, Business Director of Dabel Brothers Publishing. "We think that this will be the start of another great relationship."

The Dabel Brothers will release the first issue of Alpha and Omega: Cry Wolf in August followed by three more issues to complete the first volume.

Then in November 2009, Ace will release Alpha and Omega: Cry Wolf, Volume 1, a graphic novel composed of issues 1 through 4 of the Cry Wolf comics.

"I'm so excited to work with the Dabel Brothers on the graphic novel adaptation of Patricia Briggs's novel Cry Wolf. Their work is stunning and I know they'll do her story justice. I can't wait to bring the werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham to life through comics as well as in novels," said Executive Editor Anne Sowards.

Patricia Briggs is the author of 14 novels as well as several short stories, all in the fantasy genre. She is best known for her New York Times bestselling Mercy Thompson series. Bone Crossed, the fourth installment in this series-and the first to be published in hardcover-hit bookstores in February 2009 to rave reviews and spent several weeks on national bestseller lists.

Review - Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs

Bone Crossed
Mercy Thompson, Book 4
Patricia Briggs
ACE
February 3, 2009
ISBN# 978-0-441-01676-1

Book blurb:
In a world where “witches, vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters live beside ordinary people” (Booklist), it takes a very unusual woman to call it home. By day, Mercy Thompson is a car mechanic in Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shape-shifter with some unusual talents, Mercy’s found herself maintaining a tenuous harmony between the human and the not-so- human on more than one occasion. This time she may get more than she bargained for.

My thoughts:
Mercy Thompson has recently survived a terrible ordeal, and try as my might she’s having a difficult time dealing. When an old acquaintance shows up on her doorstep asking for help she’s inclined to do what she can, especially when she learns that a young boy could be in trouble.

Stepping away from the escalating danger at home, Mercy heads to Spokane, with the added protection of Stefan at her back, and attempts to help Amber with her ghostly troubles. What she finds is that there’s more at work than a disgruntled ghost frightening her friend’s young son. The family’s survival, as well as her own, may depend on the choices that she alone must make.

This is the fourth novel in the Mercy Thompson series. Ms. Briggs brings the series to several cross-roads where the heroine is forced to make quick decisions that are crucial to her future. Bone Crossed has all of the danger filled excitement that readers expect in this supernatural world. The characters are exceptional, especially the heroine who relies on her own strengths and shows her emotions in a very human way. This is a series that I highly recommend reading.

Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs

Cry Wolf
Alpha and Omega, Book 1
Patricia Briggs
Ace
July 29, 2008
ISBN# 978-0-441-01615-0

From the Publisher’s site:
Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack…and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she’d learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf: an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country will recognize her value as a pack member—and as his mate.
-
My thoughts:
After an attack that changed her into a werewolf, Anna was forced into the local pack and bullied into submission. She’s a rare Omega wolf who should be revered for what she can offer the pack, but her Alpha had other plans. She’s been cut off from her family and friends with the promise of their deaths should she contact them. Then Charles, the Marrock’s son, comes into her life, and the difficult life she has endured these last few years is about to change.

Charles Cornick can hardly believe that an Alpha would do to an Omega what was done to Anna. Abused into a position that didn’t suit her, Anna’s distrust of dominant males puts Charles in a situation where he must do his best to curb his instincts. He wants her for a mate, but he’ll have to convince her that she has no reason to fear him before she’ll ever let him close enough to form a strong relationship.

Asil lost his mate long ago when a young witch they took in and raised turned on them. On the edge of madness, and wanting to be put down, Asil is soothed by the new Omega’s presence. When a rogue wolf is thought to be roaming the surrounding area Charles is sent to investigate. The description stirs memories from Asil’s past, but it’s a mystery that must be solved quickly before the danger it represents can cause a countless number of deaths.

This is the first in Alpha and Omega, a spin-off of the Mercy Thompson series. Besides getting to know a few of Mercy’s friends in much more detail, Cry Wolf is a great start to this new werewolf series. Ms. Briggs is a fantastic storyteller who provides the kind of detail a reader needs to fully immerse themselves in a story. The action is filled with dangerous surprises and the romance will find a way into your heart. It’s always a pleasure to read a new tale from this talented author, so prepare yourself to add this to your list of favorites to follow.
