The Chosen Sin
Anya Bast
Berkley – Heat

ISBN# 978-0-425-22356-7

Book blurb:
In this sensuous and lust-filled otherworld, the Chosen are vampires fighting for their very existence.

It is Daria’s destiny to become one of them…

Daria Morris is a special forces agent with one obsession: to wreak vengeance on the brutal vampire who nearly destroyed her. Now she’s finally about to get her chance, on one condition. She must become something she detests: a vampire.

Her fate rests upon one man’s lethal bite. His name is Alejandro Martinez, and he can help her infiltrate a highly guarded group of the Chosen. But Alejandro is also a distraction for Daria. Because thirteen years ago, they shared a scorching night of passion neither has forgotten.

Now, while Daria struggles against her newfound bloodlust, the two must slip into the shadows to bring a monster to justice—even as their desire threatens to consume them. But under the cover of night, they’ll discover that it’s the darkness within that may stand in the way of their hunger for retribution…

Seduced by the Storm by Sydney Croft

Seduced by the Storm
ACRO series, Book 3
Sydney Croft
Delta
July 29, 2008
ISBN# 978-0-385-34082-3

From the publisher’s site:
They met in a steamy Florida bar—then spent a night of mind-bending passion. Two secret agents who each possess unique telekinetic gifts—and whose combined sexual powers leave neither of them unscathed. For ex-Navy SEAL Wyatt Kennedy, assigned by the Agency for Covert Rare Operatives to the most treacherous mission of his career, the woman in black leather and lace has just become more than a one-night stand. Because Faith Black is the sole barrier to the success of his mission—and not even Wyatt’s legendary seduction skills can penetrate her deep cover.
-
Faith’s psychic gifts make her one of the world’s most dangerous women—but she hides a secret pain she shares with no one. Until Wyatt. And Faith has an agenda of her own: using her unique powers to save someone close to her—a move that pits her against a man she thought she’d never see again. For as a deadly hurricane is unleashed across the eastern seaboard, desire reignites between Faith and Wyatt, exposing secrets that thrust them both into harm’s way. With the hurricane sweeping closer—and their erotic hunger for each other growing—these two wary hearts must come together to heal, to trust . . . and to harness the power of a storm that could consume everything in its path.

My thoughts:
Agent Wyatt Kennedy is a telekinetic with the ability to seduce without ever physically touching the intended target. It’s a handy skill in his job for ACRO and one he’s good at. When he’s sent on a mission to stop and destroy the weather machine that their nemesis is using, the last thing he expects is to fall for a woman. Especially a woman like Faith, who has similar goals and a talent of her own that she’s willing to use to ensure that she walks away the winner.

The story that Faith Black tells is that she’s a free agent, working on her own for those willing to pay for her time and skills. That’s not entirely true, but she’s a wild card and possible danger to Wyatt and his mission. For Faith this job is personal, because if she fails and returns empty handed someone’s sure to pay the price.

This is the third installment in the ACRO series, and like its predecessors it will keep readers glued to every erotically action-packed page. It’s easy to see how well Sydney Croft works as a creative team. The authors build a world populated by strong characters with extrasensory gifts and they reveal just enough weakness to keep them believably human. With thrilling adventure, turmoil and danger behind every door, the agents of ACRO make Seduced by the Storm the most passionate to date.

The Bearskin Rug by Jennifer Stevenson

The Bearskin Rug
Book 3
Jennifer Stevenson
Ballantine Books
June 24, 2008
ISBN# 978-0-345-50024-3

From the back cover:
THE MAGIC: A live-in sex demon sure keeps a girl up at night
But for Jewel, a fraud cop leery of commitment, Randy could be too much of a good thing.
-
THE MISCHIEF: Hinky and kinkySomething seriously weird is going on at an erotic film studio. Jewel and her sexy partner, Clay, take the case–and Randy finds an outlet for his special skills.
-
THE MAN TROUBLE: Two hotties and a hard decisionIf Jewel’s the luckiest girl in Chicago, how come she’s sleeping alone so much?
-
My thoughts:
Jewel Heiss continues her job as a fraud investigator for the Chicago Department of Consumer Services tracking down hinky crimes. She finally has a new partner at work in Clay, the ex-con. Randy, the sex demon, who became bound to her in the Brass Bed, still shares her bed.

When Consumer Services is called to investigate a complaint made against the Department of Inspectional Services, Jewel, Clay and Randy visit the home and search for traces of a pocket zone, a patch of unreality. This spurs a new investigation as the team begins following a paper trail to find who could be benefiting by purchasing and selling property in the area.

Jewel goes undercover as a secretary at Baysdorter Boncil, a real estate development firm that’s recently had an unexpected and inappropriate meeting in the boardroom. It’s obvious from the start that the women employed by the firm are being sexually harassed by their bosses, but the problem runs much deeper than that. Something very hinky is going on.

In the midst of it all the team visits a business where Randy has decided to make a stand for his own independence, and takes on a job. It’s a job that Jewel not only finds disturbing, but it’s one that could end their relationship beyond friends. A sobering thought for Jewel, and one she’d rather not entertain.

This is the third book in the series, and continues the tale of Jewel’s hinky and erotic adventures. As magic sweeps the nation, Chicago has strict rules in not acknowledging the bizarre goings on. It’s Jewel’s job to stop the hinky stuff in its tracks, and lucky for her she has Clay and Randy there to help her. Ms. Stevenson takes readers on a madcap adventure that’s as fast-moving as it is humorous. For fans that have followed the heroine’s progress and the role she plays in their sexy love triangle since The Brass Bed, you may be very surprised at how The Bearskin Rug ends.

Blood Noir by Laurell K. Hamilton

Blood Noir
Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 16
Laurell K. Hamilton
Berkley
May 27, 2008
ISBN# 978-0-425-22219-5

Anita Blake is a necromancer, Federal Marshall for vampire executions, and the human servant to Master of the City of St. Louis, Jean-Claude. When Jason, Jean-Claude’s pomme de sang, asks Anita for a favor she convinces herself it’s the right thing to do. Afraid of flying, and less than thrilled to be meeting Jason’s family under less than truthful circumstances, Anita says goodbye to Nathaniel and Micah, her live-in boyfriends, and accompanies Jason home. What might have been an emotionally difficult trip for Jason turns into a life threatening time for them both.

Jason Schuyler is a werewolf and has not seen his father in several years. His father is now dying and Jason is returning home to make one final effort in smoothing things out before his death. What he hadn’t known when arranging their trip was that his cousin, Keith Summerland, is getting married during the same time he’ll be in town. The problem is that Jason looks so much like Keith and his twin brother that he’s immediately mistaken for him and has the press hounding him and Anita from the time they touch down. If that weren’t enough, it seems that his cousin has gotten himself into a very bad situation with the vampires, who also mistake Jason as the culprit.

Marmee Noir is waking, and the power Anita holds within her is like a magnet to the Mother of all Darkness. A trip that had already turned life threatening is about to take an even darker turn when Anita finds herself fighting an unseen battle to survive.

This is the sixteenth installment in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. Blood Noir centers on an out-of-town trip where Anita accompanies Jason to make peace with his dying father. The action is a plentiful mix of human and supernatural that leaves little time to lose interest. Sex is a part of the overall storyline, because without feeding the ardeur Anita won’t survive. Ms. Hamilton adds detail to a charming character by giving readers a look into his past, and takes her heroine a step further with her battle against powerful dark forces. A must read for fans of the series, especially those fans who want to learn more about Jason. If you’re new to this series you should really start at the beginning. If you’re squeamish about explicit sex scenes then take a pass on this series rather than torturing yourself with such delicious detail.

Slave by Cheryl L. Brooks

Slave
The Cat Star Chronicles, Book One
Cheryl L. Brooks
Sourcebooks – Casablanca
April 1, 2008
ISBN# 978-1-4022-1192-8

For the past six years Jacinth has traveled from planet to plant searching for her kidnapped sister, Ranata. Believing that she’s been taken to Statzeel, a planet where all women are slaves, Jacinth poses as a man to purchase a slave of her own to act as her master. This will allow her the freedom to search for her sister without being taken as a slave herself.

Cat was taken as a slave at a young age, and has been in servitude all of his adult years. Back on the slave market he’s bought and freed by Jacinth, but he’s unwilling to leave the woman who showed him such kindness. Born on a planet that no longer exists, and possibly the last of his race, Cat has no home to return to as a free man.

Tracking down Ranata will be a dangerous journey for Jacinth and Cat. What they’ll find along the way will threaten their future and tie them together in ways they never dared hope for.

Slave is the first story in The Cat Star Chronicles. After spending years searching for her sister alone, Jacinth finds the help and companionship she needs in Cat. Theirs is a relationship built on trust and survival that will quickly grow to more. Ms. Brooks creates a detailed sci-fi world and sends her characters on a journey to alien planets in their search. This is an erotic romance with a creative plot, and while I usually enjoy a first person narrative it was difficult to get through in this story. The protagonist’s internal dialog is peppered with exclamations that seemed unnecessary, and in the end I was unable to establish a connection with her. The character that did capture my attention was Cat. He’s intriguing, sweet and sexy. The next installment in the Cat Star Chronicles, Warrior, is currently due to release in October 2008.

Unleashing the Storm by Sydney Croft

Unleashing the Storm
ACRO Series, Book 2
Sydney Croft
Delta – Bantam Dell
February 26, 2008
ISBN# 978-0-385-34081-6

Being an animal whisperer has put Kira Donovan in many a bad spot, so she’s spent much of her time on the run. It’s May, and she’s just begun the weeks of her heat, the need to be with a man is so strong that for Kira it’s literally life and death. Lucky for her she’s just hired two new men to help with the animals at the sanctuary and while Derek would suit her needs, it’s Tom who truly captures her attention.

Tom Knight is reluctantly following orders when he heads out to bring Kira in to work for ACRO or eliminate her. When he arrives he finds that their fears were for good reason. Kira’s already a target for Itor who, unlike ACRO, has plans to use Kira for a very evil purpose. Understanding her need to mate when her body insists on it, Tom has little trouble getting close to his target. Now he’ll just have to convince her that the only safe option she has is to join ACRO, without getting too attached to her himself.

Unleashing the Storm is the second book in the ACRO series. Kira has never known a life where she’s been accepted just as she is. In Tom’s arms Kira may find exactly what she’s yearned for, but Tom will take a bit more convincing. Ms. Croft builds a strong world for her characters to grow in while providing interesting backgrounds and intriguing talents for each. The tale of Dev and Oz continues through this installment and I look forward to seeing more of them in the next book as well. The third book, Seduced by the Storm, is currently scheduled for July 2008.

Bending to Break by A. J. Hampton

Bending to Break
A. J. Hampton
Cacoethes Publishing House, LLC.
January 31, 2008
ISBN# 978-0-9799015-7-7

While Kayden Gray was once seduced by a vampire’s lies, she continues the hunt to eliminate the demons. Bitten but not fully turned, she’s a half-breed. Caught between two worlds, Kayden is seen as an abomination to be destroyed. Her sire, Jullian, insists she belongs to him. Her only hope for freedom is he’s final death.

Being saddled with a partner, Micah MacKenzie, is the last thing Kayden wanted. While he may be decent back-up, and a treat on the eyes, she finds him completely infuriating.

On a routine hunt, Kayden and Micah stumble upon something more than their usual target, and find themselves battling a succubus that has set her sights on Micah. This brand of demon has one thing on her mind, and she’s powerful enough to get what she wants. Forcing Micah and Kayden to act on the lust and deeper feelings they’ve repressed may kill them unless their families can find a way to stop her in time.

Bending to Break is an erotic paranormal romance that starts out in high gear and continues the fast pace throughout the story. Kayden and Micah love to argue and hate to admit they’re wrong, but with a succubus using her lust filled powers there will be no more denying the way they feel. Ms. Hampton pens a story of supernatural seduction, dark passion and the joys of newfound love. Readers looking for a steamy paranormal tale where the storyline is enticing and the characters are given the green light to explore their lust filled urges, you need look no further than Bending to Break.
